A COVID Anniversary Date

Every anniversary, we go to Mijitas for dinner. It’s our favorite place on the island and eating out is a rarity for us, so we thoroughly enjoy it when we go. We even get the same dishes every time (I get the quinoa cakes and he gets the fish tacos).

This year was…unique. At least we could order take-out. We got our Mijitas to go and drove out to West Beach. We parked facing the ocean and ate in our laps in the car (there was a chilly breeze outside). We even dressed up – I in make-up, earrings, a jacket, and a dress; and he put on a shirt! (If you don’t know my husband, he spends his life shirtless, always exercising, working on the yard, or just living with a high metabolism.)

It was very quiet, overly peaceful, and oh so people-less. There’s just something about celebrating around other people, even when you’re not necessarily with them. Something about hearing voices and laughter and chatting around you. Something about tables and waiters and warm plates. Something about facing each other instead of a steering wheel.

We enjoyed it nonetheless, and I don’t think we’ll forget the quirkiness of it for a long time to come.

COVID, we’re working around you the best we can!
