The Fruits of Fall

It feels like eons since I’ve posted anything. My computer has gotten so elderly that it no longer allows me to access my blog. But as fall tends to bring, change is in the air, and the blog (or “blob,” as my mom thinks it’s called) has been set aside for heavier things. Between visiting my mom everyday during her last month on Orcas Island before moving to Texas, I’ve been gleaning off my favorite fruit trees around town (now that the blackberries are waning) and pondering my memories. I’m already missing the fleeting plum season. Just a few weeks ago I was eating 40 a day. (No, they don’t have the same effect as prunes. At least not with me.)

I’m in a new phase of life – for the first time in 14 years, both of our boys are in school. I have hours and hours to myself – a well-earned, much-needed gift of me to me. How amazing it is to have my mind all to myself. How lovely to take a long morning walk with my husband, blend up my favorite smoothie afterward, and head to the library to work on the books that are overflowing out of my being.

May fall bring good fruit your way as well… (And a new computer my way.)
