Lizards with Ticks

Spring is bursting here with a week of nonstop sunshine and no clouds in the sky – a near-anomaly for this place before summer. Deer are grazing, bunnies are hopping, birds are chirping, and two snakes and two alligator lizards found themselves in our critter cage this afternoon (we catch and release).

I’m always learning something new from the investigations of our 10-year-old animal lover. Did you know that alligator lizards can have 12 ticks in their ears without them even showing? Oh, it makes me sick just thinking about it. Our son pulled back the skin around one of the lizards’ ears to reveal multiple sets of squiggling tick legs. Out he went with some tweezers to relieve the poor guy of the blood-suckin’ tagalongs and set the ticks free. I catch spiders in the house and set them free, but he goes way beyond that. Eeesh.

Just a quirky little somethin’ from our house to yours. 🙃
