A week or so ago, someone asked me if I was planning to go to the Barbie movie. There’s a lot of mainstream media I don’t keep up with much, so my first reaction was, “Ha! I don’t think so!” Then I stopped and thought for a minute. “Actually, I bet it’s going to be hilarious! Maybe I will!” I went and watched a few previews and, sure enough, it looks like a blast. I hope the box office still has some tickets, as I just learned that they’re sold out online. I hear people are dressing up too – what a blast it will be!
And by the way, even though they have to portray all of the characters looking somewhat like plastic dolls, it’s important for girls and guys not to see that as the ultimate in beauty. Yeah, we adults know that, but anyone of any age is still prone to compare themselves with media images, even though there may be some self-effacing parodies going on in the movie.
So when you see Margot Robbie, remember she’s still one of us. Human. They all are.
