The Emptiness is Filling

Some things you don’t imagine. I don’t think anyone ever imagined empty, quiet public schools. It’s been almost a year, and it’s been scarily quiet every time I’ve walked through the campus.

Students through 3rd grade have recently been welcomed back, which is beyond wonderful for them, their teachers, their parents, and the administrators! It’s been almost 365 days of scenes like these below. No hordes of kids running around and the sports fields empty.

Say some bold prayers for the students as they transition from their rooms and kitchen tables back to their classrooms – that their excitement isn’t hampered by cases of COVID; that their zeal to be back doesn’t distract them from education; that they get to see the year out on campus rather than sitting on their beds alone with computers on their laps; that their teachers deal with more enthusiasm than difficultiy; and that their parents can finally get back to undistracted work.

The school Superintendent, Eric Webb, sent out a letter on February 1st detailing the plan. Here it is.

May life fill these places once again.

The private schools here have been in person for the most part. Salmonberry and Spring Street had a few gaps (if this is incorrect, feel free to correct me) and Orcas Christian has been open since the start of the year.
