Wisdom from Mom

My Mom is 86 years old. She moved from Orcas Island back to Texas last year and she’s stayed in her senior apartment, nice and distanced, for all these months. My siblings visit her, but for her to go out is an extremely rare thing.

The other day, my mom and my older sister were talking about the things my mom really needs to attend to.

My sister asked, “Mom, is it worth dying for you to go to the optometrist for a new eyeglasses prescription?”

“No,” my mom said.

“Is it worth dying for you to have some dental work done?”

“No,” my mom said.

“Is it worth dying to get your voter registration forms figured out so you can vote?”

“Yes,” my mom said firmly, “it is.”

So off they went on the one errand that my mom decided was important enough to go out in the world to do.
