Daycation on Shaw Island

Every now and then when the weather is gorgeous, we opt to catch the 15-minute ferry to Shaw Island for the day. We walk on, get the kids an ice cream cone at the little General Store, and then we spend the afternoon walking a few miles to the sandy beach and playing in the sunshine. Only a few cars pass us. The wind blows our hair, the ocean laps along the shore, and the green grass sways in the breeze. The family jaunt is totally peaceful. Almost otherworldly. The mainland has no idea such serenity exists. Then we walk back to the ferry, cross the tiny bit of ocean between the two islands, and drive 15 minutes back home.
