A Final Goodbye, Orcas Style

As my siblings and I were carrying our mom’s things to the U-Haul for her move to Texas, a big, beautiful buck walked up to her window and looked right at her as if to give her one last gift from this magical place.

Deer are everywhere, but this doesn’t usually happen at my mom’s place because right beyond her windows is a steep drop-off to the ocean.

What a perfect final goodbye from nature. I will miss you immensely, Mom.

(She and my brother are now somewhere between Yreka and Sacramento, headed for Dallas…)
