I love seeing what’s going on behind closed doors here on the island – people working on their music, their business, their craft, their passion, their art, their acting, etc. Anytime I am allowed access into a new environment, I jump at it.
After watching and writing about the live recordings that Elizabeth Schermerhorn posts of her clothing store, Faraways Boutique, I asked if I could come watch and take a few photos behind the scenes at her next one. She replied an emphatic yes, so here’s a peek…
Elizabeth and her daughter, Bella, make the jewelry in her store, and Bella is her right-hand woman helping with every aspect of the business. Here is Bella recording every order placed during the live recording the night I was there. Elizabeth’s husband also chips in with anything he’s needed to do.
Elizabeth is so kind. She has worked hard to have a well-run business, but shrewd with a hard edge she is not. More like kind, smart, consistent, generous, and good-hearted. She knows exactly what her mission is – to provide fine clothing that doesn’t break the bank for her customers. She knows exactly what her color scheme is. She works hard to be prompt and accurate, yet throws in extra fun things now and then to brighten people’s purchases with unexpected gifts. And she uses the live recordings to discount her clothes to viewers who want to purchase them right then and there.
I had a ball watching the whole video process, and then she invited me to wear and talk about some of the clothes during the “show.” What fun I had!
