Meet David Young

David and his wife, Chris, are two people I often pass when out walking. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen them, though, so it was a pleasure today when my husband and I ran into David in town.

David is an avid sailor, and always has ocean adventures up his sleeve. He has plans to sail up through the Gulf Islands soon, and has no qualms with solitude or unpredictability while on his Montgomery 17 (17-foot) Pocket Cruiser called Tramontana. He explained to me that in Italy, a compass rose has names for each direction. North is Tramontana, which means “wind from the Alps.”

I once asked him if he’s ever scared when the conditions change and things get dicey. He said no. He seems to love whatever unknowns come his way, and thrives on being out in the Northwest elements.

I didn’t know it until today, but David also loves to put videos together on his YouTube channel. If you need some vicarious adventuring and would like to be a fly on the wall (or a gull on the mast?) to see what it’s like to sail around these parts, take a look at some of David’s videos…
