You drive into a gated area leading to a plane-hangar neighborhood right on the air strip here on Orcas Island, and you’ve arrived at Kim Middleton’s studio. I love the diversity we experience on this tour. Kim’s dazzlingly colorful paintings of birds convey her love and knowledge of the avian world. Kim’s paintings take time – she goes out into the wild, finds the bird she wants to paint, photographs it, and goes home to apply coat after coat, layering each painting after waiting for each previous coat to thoroughly dry. Aside from selling her art, she gives birding tours in different areas of the world. Visit here to learn more about her work.
