I love that even though I may not feel the subtle changes in the air or in my body, the natural world is moving right along in its cycle of rebirth. Gray clouds loom, snow has recently fallen, and I’m still wearing my down jacket in the house all day long. But nature is slowly shifting around us. Birds are singing that I haven’t heard for months. Puffed-up robins have come out of nowhere to congregate on our snow-patched lawn. New allium foliage is poking through the ground beneath their old dead stalks from last fall. Hellebores are rising and bursting open. Bright pink anemones and deep purple primroses have opened as if to tell the sun that it’s time to come out and play. I love all of this. Just when you think the gray is permanent, quiet changes signal that a major shift is on the near horizon.
