Orcas Island Community Church’s Christmas Eve candlelight service encapsulates all that Christmas is about. At the end of the service, we turn off all of the lights. One candle is brought forward and from that one, each person lights the next candle. It goes on until every person’s candle is lit. There are so many wonderfully metaphorical things about the experience of seeing the darkness overtaken one candle at a time until the room is full of warm, glowing light.
