It is confirmed – an Orcas Islander has the first documented case of the Coronavirus in the San Juan Islands as of yesterday. It’s probably safe to say that it’s been here for some time undocumented, given that we haven’t had much testing and locals are going to and from the mainland and Seattle every day.
Now that it’s officially here, we will most definitely have more stringent self-regulation of our activities. Fortunately, there’s a lot of space, clean air, and wilderness for roaming freely about, away from others.
On a humorous note, I don’t care for diets because they cause people to immediately crave what they didn’t even care that much about just hours before. Well, last night the mere thought of potentially eating our way down to just our rice and bean stash at some point drove me to crave fluff foods. So we ate backwards – cookie dough ice cream for dinner and a pancake breakfast for dessert. Not like we endured some amazing time period without food, just the thought of it going away.

If you’re feeling casual about it, this is a man in Italy urging people to take this as seriously as possible. If you don’t watch the whole thing, at least watch some of the first part and the final minute. It’s sobering.
And this is a daunting video made by an epidemiologist/quantitative data analyst with numbers similar to Orcas Island’s population…
