I had one of the best salads ever. In the airport, of all places.
I’m so elated that there is healthy food in airports these days. When traveling, I don’t want McDonald’s hamburgers. I also want access to good food that doesn’t come in a tiny plastic package and cost a mint.
Voila! Evergreens is the place! You can get a salad, a wrap, or a grain bowl they offer. Or, you can build your own. That’s the way to go!
I was really wanting an abundant Caesar salad, but I happened to notice the calorie content on the $10 one they offered – 190. Not enough calories for my ten dollars! So I opted to customize my own salad and, for the same price, you get to put anything in your salad that you want (minus avo or meat for extra). They add each element you okay in a bowl – and there are endless elements you can add – then mix it all together with whatever dressing you like at the end. I like to get as much bang for my buck and that bowl of salad was massive. The woman could barely pack it all into the plastic to-go bowl. It looked much smaller all condensed – less impressive and aesthetically pleasing too – so I didn’t photograph it. But it was huge and wonderful.
So memorable was that salad that I got another on my way back home after my trip. It was a little less voluminous, but oh so tasty! It looks small in the photo but is actually quite a lot of food. And needed in between a four-hour flight from Dallas and a three-hour Bellair Airporter shuttle ride from SeaTac to the Anacortes ferry.
I wish Orcas Island had an affordable salad bar like Evergreens!
Secondary tip in the airport: Go to the food court and get something to eat for the simple pleasure of taking your mask off! Ahhhh, what a relief to breathe unobstructed by fabric while waiting hours for a flight! (Announcements constantly state that anyone unmasked in the airport will be denied when boarding, so it’s “okay” to unmask in the food courts and restaurants.)
