Overview:
Cinema, since its very beginnings, enjoyed portraying fanciful, imaginary worlds; some wonderful utopias, some frightening dystopias. Hollywood has looked to our future and given us some hopeful, uplifting visions of humanity’s future and many (perhaps too many) looks at what could go wrong.
Join us this season of another Classics Film Series as we explore alternate visions of the future. We will avoid the usual Mad Max-style apocalyptic clichés and watch some historic, thoughtful, and fun movies from the vaults of the Silver Screen. Our trips will range from Frank Capra’s idyllic Tibetan paradise to Ray Bradbury’s book-burning totalitarian state, to a pacifist, perfect world which will have to handle both action hero Sylvester Stallone and dastardly villain Wesley Snipes. Come join Michael as he again leads us through discussions of what we think of these potential futures.
