Friday Night’s Musicians & Acrobats

Orcas Center did it again. Friday night was yet another wonderful evening of entertainment at the Village Green for the Summer Series Finale. I didn’t even realize it was going to happen until I saw the aerial rope & silk apparatus erected a few hours beforehand, with accompanying acrobats warming up with stretches I can’t even fathom doing with my own body.

First up at 6 PM was Rafe Pearlman and Friends:

Then we turned our seats around to watch local aerial silk performers Corah Pechacek and Rachel Lum:

Facing the bandstand again, we watched Luc and Benjamin, a guitarist and a painter who frequent homeless shelters, hospitals, and refugee camps to bring cheer to the downtrodden:

For the finale we turned our chairs again to watch Seattle’s Acrobatic Conundrum:

Every single acrobatic artist was absolutely fantastic. To get a live taste of Acrobatic Conundrum, watch this Tedx Talk. It isn’t current, but it gives an accurate feel of the kinds of things we watched last night. I have a particular bent toward this kind of performing art. When I took an in-depth career assessment in high school hoping it would provide direction for my future, thinking it would spit out “Biologist” or “Photographer,” I was shocked by what it tabulated as my #1 career path: “Acrobat.” I had never thought of it before then, but I think I would have loved being an acrobat. I could watch them for hours.

When the night was over, the painter had his finished masterpiece on the bandstand:

Thank you, Orcas Center, for bringing entertainment, community, and normalcy back into our lives in a safe venue!
