Tomorrow the cast of Mamma Mia! will begin their second round of three weekend musical shows at Orcas Center. By the end of next weekend, they will have done 11 total performances. By around the eighth, I think my mind would get so loopy in deja-vu land that I wouldn’t know where I was in the script at any given moment.
These dedicated actor-singers have been learning their songs, moves, and lines since October, and practicing 5 nights a week since January. Building that kind of surrogate-family camaraderie must have been a wonderful experience, especially in the colder, darker months. And now, how perfectly timed the show is to blossom as spring’s warm air envelopes the island.
I saw the show Saturday evening and thought it must be especially hard for the cast to go home each night and transition into their quiet houses to go to sleep after all the fun and dancing. I was ready to get on stage with them and keep it going rather than call it quits at 10:30. That’s probably why Thursday nights are special sing-along shows. Perhaps I should go again tomorrow…
