Here are just a few messages that speak to you as you walk around Eastsound – reminders of community, humanity, strength, touch, love, and connecting with each other. Oh, how we could all use a community potluck, a soulful hoedown, a gigantic song circle, a country barn dance, or just a big ol’ picnic at the Village Green.
I’ve learned from all of this “staying at home” that no amount of Zooming, phone calling, movie watching, exercising, paddleboarding, brownie eating, or pizza cooking can fill the hollow void left by a lack of diverse, multitudinous humans in our lives.
I wonder when we will hug and shake hands again when we see each other downtown. Or invite each other over for dinner. Until that day, I will miss you all so very much.
I’m definitely not saying we should get together immediately or stop wearing masks or be foolish now that we’ve been so good about keeping the virus from spreading on our island. I’m simply expressing my void and, though it may be years from now, I long for the day that normalcy can restart.
My favorite …. “Kindness is not canceled”.
