All-day rain was Monday’s forecast. It was a very dark morning, almost like permanent dusk. A perfect family movie day, if there ever was one. But something began to happen outside our window. We watched as the rain slowly morphed into heavier-looking lumps, then ice, then full-on thick snow.
We went from pausing what we were watching in order to marvel at the beauty to stopping the show altogether in favor of some unexpected snow play. Jackets and snow pants that have hung in the closet for many moons came out, and we pulled on thick socks and boots…

Just one of those spontaneous gifts Orcas Island gives us out of the blue, replaced the next morning by another rare gift – beaming sun for the past two days.
