This is a sweet little salamander the length of a child’s pinkie finger. My son “raised” it in a bucket from the larval stage, when it looked like a little opaque axolotl. His pond treasures gathered in June made for a fascinating glimpse into nature’s miraculous stages of life over the past several months.
Did you know that a young salamander in the larval stage is called an eft? I just learned that word.
This little buddy now lives in our friend’s homemade pond – thanks Lauren!
