Please Support Sarah Burns’ College Fund

Sarah Burns is one of the kindest, most responsible high school graduates that I know. She learned it from her mom, Suri.

Suri Burns and her children – Sarah (19), Maria (16), and Thomas (14) – moved from Indonesia to Orcas Island in April of 2022. Suri has been working hard at three jobs – the Country Corner, cleaning houses, and taking care of the elderly – to raise her three children as a single mother. She has high expectations that they, too, work hard, study hard, be polite to their elders and kind to their peers, and reach for their goals.

Sarah has worked at the Cottage Gift Shop at the ferry landing for the past two years, and she graduated from Orcas Christian School in June with a senior year GPA of 3.7.

She is headed to Whatcom Community College in Bellingham on September 19th.

She will be going into the field of nursing and hopes to someday be a travel nurse. This year, they will need to come up with an additional $4,000 over and above what they normally earn in order for Sarah to attend school.

I know how generous the people of Orcas Island are, and I would like to ask all of you out there to consider giving to this family so that Sarah can have the opportunity to go as far as she can. Neither Suri nor Sarah asked me to do this post. I suggested it, and I want the very best for this family.

If many of us give whatever we can, whether it’s $10 or $1,000, we will make dreams come true.

You can contribute via Venmo to Kadek Suriadi, 360-375-5868 (@suriburns) or by mailing a check to Suri or Sarah Burns at 64D April’s Way, Eastsound, WA 98245.

Thank you so very much.
