In case you missed this past Saturday’s show at the Village Green, the finale of the summer series, you’ve gotta watch some clips – the Rise Up singers and musicians are fantastic:
It became quickly apparent that a young contingent of the crowd was quite well-versed in all of the songs Rise Up was singing.
I couldn’t help watching Elodie Antonia, the one sitting on the rock. She knew every word.
I also couldn’t help but notice the dancing! Did you see the interpretive dancing by some of these kids? Namely, the girl in the red pants – she’s a natural! Orcas Center, keep your eyes on her!
At the end, Elodie got to meet the singers and musicians and was absolutely beaming.
(For a little context, Elodie’s parents own the new Italian restaurant, Monti.)
I also learned that Mona Evans, who was sitting in the grass next to us, has playlists full of Broadway music. This was her kind of concert also.
The drummer and founder of the band, Jeremy Stone, offered Mona the drumsticks he used during the concert, but she declined. In her politeness, she imagined he might like to keep them instead for the next show. He assured her that he wanted to give them, so Mona accepted.
Someone mentioned that Hamilton will be in Seattle. I checked online and watched a preview – I enjoyed the voices of the Rise Up group better than the ones I heard on the preview!
Go here to Rise Up’s website, and perhaps you’ll get a chance to see them if they come to Orcas again in the near future. Jake Perrine asked the crowd what we thought about them coming to Orcas Center, and the answer was an overwhelming roar of a yes.
I normally don’t care for musicals, Broadway performances, and the like, but between the band, the singers, and the young enthusiastic crowd, it was an awesome experience. I walked away feeling so inspired.
