Every summer has its own flavor. One summer we built lots of makeshift rafts out of driftwood and paddled out to Indian Island. Some summers our kids did lots of fun camps. Other summers we hiked a lot.
This summer we’ve been going to the lake over and over. We decided to keep all the lake stuff in the trunk so it doesn’t feel like we’re hauling half our life around every time we go.
Its draw hasn’t gotten old – it’s beautiful, clean, and so refreshing. I could just sit on the shore all day long and soak in the scenery while people-watching. But my recent favorite thing to do is swim while pulling someone across the lake on a floatie.
I so enjoyed pulling my one visiting sister across a week ago, then my other visiting sister a few days ago. Today, my husband pulled our kids (and me!) across it and I pulled one back while the older one swam next to me. There’s something deeply gratifying about slowly side-stroking across, taking all the beauty in while being out in the middle of a large body of water. Getting to the other side isn’t the goal. Being fully immersed in the moment is.
See that little white dot on the water in the distance? That’s the halfway buoy. Distance is quite the optical illusion on the lake.
See ya there tomorrow!
