Yesterday Time for Three, a super dynamic and charismatic trio, performed for the Orcas Island Public School kids at Orcas Center.
Double bassist Ranaan Meyer, violinist Nick Kendall, and violinist Charles Yang wowed us all with their combination of skill, improvisation, and easy humor while playing classical and modern mixes – think Guns N’ Roses and Gustav Mahler.
You’ve gotta see this and you’ll get an idea of what I mean by super…
After a question-and-answer session, they performed their final piece for us with our local violining phenom, Paris Wilson. Her mom, sitting behind us, was shaking with nerves for Paris – of the hundreds of times Paris has performed, she’s never done “Stand by Me,” and as the trio explained to us, they spent about three minutes preparing backstage with Paris.
You wouldn’t have ever known it, though, of course. Paris is a true professional. Not a single nonverbal expression on her face showed that it was new to her. She is so solid.
Music and performers like this get me all pumped up, so instead of biking away feeling satiated, I went away feeling like I need to go to their concert tonight and get some more. It’s at Orcas Center at 7:30 PM and is nearly sold out. Paris will be on stage too!
