No, it’s not some weird transparent cloud desperate to darken our skies again. It’s a solar eclipse! Annularity just occurred a bit ago, the state when the moon is right in the middle of the sun, creating a ring of fire.

We on Orcas didn’t experience annularity, though. We were able to see what it looked like with about 76% coverage. Here is a map that shows who saw what:

I can’t say I knew this was about to happen – I haven’t watched the news lately. I was just lying in bed enjoying relaxing on a Saturday morning and noticed the forest looked dark and shadowy even though the sun was beaming. My son and I were puzzled at first until we realized it could be only one thing – an eclipse.
