Writing at the Library Until Midnight

There aren’t a whole lot of things to do at night in Eastsound unless Orcas Center is open or you’re going to a restaurant or bar. Things typically close down pretty early and town is quiet.

But Saturday night (Nov 4th), the library had a NaNoWriMo event for National Novel Writing Month. Anyone interested in writing, from 13 to 113, was invited to come and quietly crank out as many words as possible in whatever literary project they’ve been wanting to start, continue, or finish.

Six hours of silent, individual yet communal productivity – that’s my kind of evening entertainment!

It was a GREAT turnout! Desks and chairs were filled as people poured out their creativity. I’ve never been to anything like it. It was hard to leave. We might need to celebrate NaNoWriMo every month!

Thank you to the library, Lael Watson, HALO, the Gaileys, and everyone else who helped make it happen.

I love the images of the rain-slick deserted night streets on Orcas–paradoxically warm and communal.
