Orcas Art Studio Tour 2026: Gracie Brown

I am so deeply moved by the lush, quiet serenity of Orcas. I see my work and creative process as an intimate love letter to my surroundings. To paint, draw and produce prints is the closest I’ve come to physically representing the spiritual relationship I’ve cultivated with this island. Although trained with oils as an undergrad, I primarily shifted to painting with acrylics on stretched canvas and wood panels. I also make a variety of art prints on the side, utilizing the linocut, etching and monotype printing processes.

I was impressed with Gracie’s vulnerability in showing her journals at her table. I have not included the pages that were even more deeply personal. She would make a phenomenal graphic novel with that kind of vulnerability. People connect and heal through the vulnerability of others…
