This past Saturday was an artist reception for Laura Yeats at the Art Barn at Bonnie Brook Farm.
This September, Orcas Art Barn is pleased to present new work by Laura Yeats, a wood turner and artist whose practice begins where a tree’s life ends. Laura transforms fallen trees into utilitarian bowls and sculptural forms. Her aesthetic is rooted in minimalism and a deep attentiveness to each tree’s story. From burls and bug trails to the contrast between heartwood and sapwood — these natural characteristics lie hidden beneath the bark and are met with reverence in every piece she makes.
Laura’s work is featured alongside the work of furniture makers Matthew O’Brien and Mark Mayer for the month of September.

The Art Barn is a working studio and art space showcasing local contemporary artists whose work is deeply rooted in nature. Wood, rock, metal, paper, clay, and paint come together in unique expressions of the island’s wild beauty… Once a hay barn, this rustic structure has been transformed into a light-filled creative space where art and nature intertwine. Visitors are invited to step inside, explore the textures, colors, and forms inspired by the island landscape, and experience art in an intimate, authentic setting.
Artists Maria Bullock, Zackarya Leck, Pete Welty, Inese Westcott, Chandelle Anderson, Annie Sparks, and Kandis Susol are also featured in the Art Barn Collective.
The Art Barn, owned and managed by Inese Westcott, is open two more Saturdays from 11-4 at 631 West Beach Road, and then it will close for the season.
