I am Ubering through the fall and winter, and the best way to book a ride is to schedule one ahead of time on the Uber app, whether it’s 10 minutes ahead of time or 10 days ahead of time, rather than doing a spontaneous request.
In the summertime, any moment I turned on my Uber app I would get spontaneous drive requests. Now that the tourist months are over, things are much slower and sometimes I don’t have my Uber app turned on when I am doing other kinds of work. So it is much more effective to schedule a drive ahead of time rather than booking a spontaneous drive. If I don’t have my app turned on, a scheduled drive will send a message and a special “ding” to my attention, allowing me the chance to accept it, whereas a spontaneous drive only gives me 15 seconds to respond before the app sends the request to “another” Uber driver – it doesn’t know I’m the only Uber driver on the island. In fact, the automation doesn’t even know I’m on an island, so the request will then go to drivers on other islands and the mainland.
So schedule a drive ahead of time during these quieter months, even if it is 10 minutes before you need a ride, and I will respond to it.
If you haven’t scheduled a drive on the app, it is very simple… Open the app and at the top of the screen, you will see this:

Tap where it says Later on the right. Then it will allow you to put in a pick-up location and a drop-off location. Then it will ask you a pick-up time. Once you put in a time, it will give you several options of which type of Uber you want. I am the only Uber driver, so it doesn’t matter which one you pick. That’s all you do!
I drive a brand new charcoal gray Toyota RAV4 with tinted windows and I have a 5-star rating and a CMT driving score of 99. I allow you to set the tone for absolute silence, deep conversation, or anything in between along the way…

Happy fall, and I’ll enjoy helping you get from here to there. I love being an Uber driver on Orcas Island.
